It’s an exciting time when your child begins growing teeth and learning to eat regular foods. However, many parents do not know when to bring their child to the dentist for the first time. According to the American Dental Association, also known as the ADA, once a child receives there first tooth is the perfect time to bring them in to meet the dentist.
Once the first baby tooth appears, not only is it the best time to take your child to the dentist, but it’s also the best time to start teaching your child about brushing their teeth. As more teeth come in and two teeth are close together, flossing then comes in.
Exposing a child to a dentist at a young age helps them throughout there life. This exposure will help the child learn about dentists and oral care. As a result, they become more comfortable around dentists and are least likely to suffer from dental anxiety. It is normal for children to be frightened of the dentist, especially if they are not familiar with the tools and process. That is why exposing them at a young age can help them before the anxiety becomes too severe. Teaching them about oral care is also vital at a young age because it helps them learn important oral habits they can use each day throughout their life.
